Montgomery County TX Trash Pickup: Bulk & Recycling Guide

Just moved here and staring at a pile of moving boxes? You are not alone. Montgomery County TX trash pickup is one of the most common questions new neighbors ask, and the answer depends on exactly where you live. There is no single countywide garbage service. Your provider is set by your city, The Woodlands Township, your MUD (municipal utility district) or your HOA.

This guide walks you through how to figure out who picks up your trash, what to do with bulky items, and where to take hazardous stuff like old paint. We linked the official sources throughout so you can double-check the details for your street.

Why Montgomery County trash service is confusing

Garbage collection here is handled by several different kinds of local entities:

  • Cities such as Conroe, Willis and Montgomery contract with a hauler and usually bill you on your city utility bill.

  • The Woodlands Township contracts with a hauler for Woodlands villages.

  • MUDs cover many neighborhoods in unincorporated parts of the county, and each one can choose its own hauler.

  • HOAs or individual subscriptions fill the gaps in some rural or unincorporated areas.

That means two neighborhoods a mile apart can have different pickup days, different carts and different bulk rules.

Who is my trash provider? MUD, city or HOA

Here are the quickest ways to find out:

  • Check your utility bill. If your water and sewer come from a city or MUD, trash is often billed on the same statement.

  • Look at your property tax statement. If a MUD is listed, visit that MUD's website. Most post their garbage hauler, pickup days and holiday schedule.

  • Use an address lookup. The Woodlands Township and the City of Conroe both offer online tools to find your service day.

  • Ask your HOA or a neighbor. Your neighborhood Facebook group usually knows the pickup day by heart.

Montgomery County TX trash pickup, city by city

Conroe

Conroe switched residential trash and recycling to Frontier Waste Solutions on October 1, 2025, as Community Impact reported. According to Frontier's Conroe service FAQ, trash and recycling are both collected once a week on the same day. Carts go out by 6:30 a.m. with the lid opening facing the street. Bag your trash, but do not bag recycling.

For bulk trash pickup in Conroe, Frontier asks you to schedule at least two days ahead. You can set out up to 8 cubic yards of bulk or brush. Limbs should be no longer than 4 feet, no more than 3 feet in diameter, and tied in bundles with string or twine. Construction debris, tires, hazardous waste and tree service debris are not accepted. Contact Frontier at 936-258-9035 or the City of Conroe Utility Billing office at 936-522-3170, option 3.

The Woodlands

The Woodlands Township contracts with Waste Management. Per the Township's trash and recycling page, each home gets two 96-gallon carts: green lid for trash and yellow lid for recycling, both collected once a week. Use the Township's address lookup to find your day.

Bulky items like furniture, mattresses and appliances must be scheduled in advance, at no extra cost. Yard trimmings go out on your regular trash day, and extra bags need a pink tag ($2.10 each). For Woodlands recycling, the yellow cart takes cans, glass, paper, cartons and plastics #1 through 5 and 7. Waste Management can be reached at 1-800-800-5804.

Willis

The City of Willis lists Waste Management as its residential hauler, with once-a-week cart pickup. Bulk trash is collected on the final Monday of each month, up to 8 large items. Call Willis City Hall at 936-856-4611 with questions.

Montgomery

The City of Montgomery holds quarterly heavy trash weekends for residents. The 2026 dates are March 7 to 8, June 6 to 7, September 12 to 13 and December 5 to 6, according to Community Impact. Bring a Texas driver's license and a city utility bill showing garbage service. See the city's heavy trash page for location and details.

Magnolia and unincorporated areas

If you live in Magnolia or outside city limits, your service is most likely set by your MUD or HOA. Start with your MUD's website or your utility bill, since haulers and rules vary by district.

Holiday schedule changes

Most providers skip Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. In Conroe, Frontier says service shifts to the following day when a holiday falls on your pickup day. The Woodlands Township posts its holiday collection schedule online each year. With the holidays coming, it is worth bookmarking your provider's page now.

Hazardous waste drop off in Montgomery County TX

Paint, motor oil, pool chemicals and pesticides should never go in your cart. Household hazardous waste is accepted only on Wednesdays and the third Saturday of the month, and paint and household chemicals cost $10 per 5 gallons. The facility also takes many everyday recyclables, electronics and yard waste, with fees for some items. Call 281-367-7283 before you load up the car.

Other handy drop-off spots

  • The Woodlands Recycling Center, 5402 Research Forest Dr., is open Wednesdays 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Township residents, according to the Township's facilities page.

  • Battery recycling is available daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at The Woodlands Central Fire Station, 9951 Grogan's Mill Road.

  • Propane tanks are not accepted at the Precinct 3 facility. The Township suggests a tank exchange display or a refill at a hardware store instead.
