Christmas lights Montgomery County TX: The Woodlands

Holiday on The Waterway

The Woodlands Waterway turns into one long, twinkling stroll every holiday season. According to Visit The Woodlands, the 2026 display runs November 21, 2026 through January 3, 2027, with oversized decorations, illuminated tunnels and complimentary trolley rides through the light installations. It is an easy add-on to dinner along the Waterway, and it is one of the best Woodlands Christmas lights 2026 outings for families with strollers.

Market Street in Lights

Market Street wraps its shops and restaurants in thousands of lights and centers everything around a 70-foot Christmas tree in Central Park. Visit The Woodlands lists hourly three-minute light shows set to holiday music from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., running from mid-November through December 31. Catch a show, grab a hot drink and do a little shopping while you are there.

Lighting of the Doves Festival

This is the night many Woodlands families mark as the official start of the season. The 2026 festival is Saturday, November 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Town Green Park. Event details list live music starting at 5 p.m., Santa's arrival and the lighting ceremony at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks. Admission is free, with an optional $5 wristband for the snow slides and play areas.

Christmas lights Conroe: downtown traditions and a drive-thru trail

Candy Cane Holiday Trail

If you want drive-through Christmas lights near Conroe, start here. The City of Conroe's Candy Cane Holiday Trail is a free drive-thru display at 1204 Candy Cane Lane with candy cane arches, sparkling tunnels and animated scenes. The city's page describes it as open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in December from 6 to 10 p.m., with holiday music on 88.9 FM and a free shuttle option from 1134 W. Dallas St. that gets priority access. Check the city page for the confirmed 2026 nights before you go.

Downtown Conroe tree lighting and Christmas celebration

The 2026 dates had not been posted when we last checked, so we will add them here as soon as they are announced.

Montgomery, Magnolia and nearby celebrations

Light Up Montgomery

The City of Montgomery runs a friendly decorating contest each year. In 2025, Light Up Montgomery had homes, businesses and light poles judged in early December, with winners announced at a free Light Up the Park event at Cedar Brake Park featuring Santa photos, games and cookies. It is a great excuse for a slow evening drive through historic Montgomery. Watch the city's site for 2026 details.

Magic of Christmas Parade of Lights in Magnolia

The Southwest Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce brings back its Magic of Christmas Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Unity Park (19450 Unity Park Dr., Magnolia).

Festival of Lights at Woodlands Church

Woodlands Church hosts a walk-through Festival of Lights at its Fellowship Drive campus. The church lists ticketed entry for guests ages 5 and up, a free plaza area, and proceeds going to local missions. Check its site for 2026 dates and time slots, since reserving ahead is recommended.

Best Christmas light neighborhoods Woodlands families love

Some of the most memorable displays are not official events at all. They are neighbors who go big, sometimes with lights synced to music. Because these are private homes, schedules change every year and we do not publish addresses until a homeowner shares them publicly. Know a house or street that deserves a spot on this list? Send us a tip and we will consider adding it to our 2026 update.

A few neighborly reminders: drive slowly with headlights on low, do not block driveways, keep car stereos down after 9 p.m., and stay on sidewalks rather than lawns.

Free vs. paid at a glance

  • Free: Holiday on The Waterway, Market Street in Lights, Lighting of the Doves (snow area $5), Candy Cane Holiday Trail, Light Up Montgomery, downtown Conroe events (based on past years)

  • Ticketed: Woodlands Church Festival of Lights ($10 to $20 for ages 5 and up, per the church), plus optional extras like ice skating

Tips for a better lights night

  • Go early in the week. Weeknights before mid-December are usually calmer than the last two weekends before Christmas.

  • Pair it with dinner. The Waterway and Market Street are both walkable to restaurants, so you can turn lights into a full evening.

  • Check the weather. Outdoor events can adjust for rain or cold, so look at the official page the day of.

  • Bring cash and a phone charger. Festival vendors and parking can vary.
