Weekend plans in Montgomery County have a way of starting with one question:

Where are we getting brunch?

The good news is that the best brunch Conroe TX has to offer goes way beyond the drive-thru. Downtown Conroe has a veteran-owned cafe and a French cafe a few blocks apart, FM 1488 has a bistro serving brioche French toast, and out by the lake you can trade a booth for a view of the water.

We checked each restaurant's own website or recent local coverage for addresses and hours, but schedules change, so call ahead or check online before you go, especially on holiday weekends.

Quick picks

  • Best for a full brunch bar: The Toasted Yolk Cafe

  • Best easy everyday pick: Black Walnut Cafe

  • Best downtown Conroe classic: Honor Cafe

How to choose your brunch spot

Every brunch crowd is a little different, so here is how we would match these spots to your plans:

  • Celebrating with a group: a place with a full bar, like The Toasted Yolk, makes toasting easy.

  • Hosting visitors: downtown Conroe lets you pair brunch at Honor Cafe or Paulette Cafe with a stroll past the shops downtown.

  • Craving something European: Madame Brioche and Paulette both lean French, with crepes and other French-style plates.

  • Turning brunch into a lake day: Monty's Lighthouse puts you right on Highway 105 near the water.

  • Sunday morning, no fuss: The Toasted Yolk and Black Walnut Cafe are open daily, so you do not have to double-check whether they are open on the weekend.

Weekend wait-time tips

  • Go early or late. Arriving near opening or after 1 p.m. usually beats the late-morning rush.

  • Use waitlists. If a restaurant offers an online waitlist, join it before you leave home.

  • Call for big groups. Parties of six or more should call ahead, especially on Mother's Day and holiday weekends.

  • Check the hours. Several local spots close by 2 or 3 p.m., and some serve brunch only on weekends.

  • Bring the kids early. Earlier seatings tend to be calmer for little ones.

Make a morning of it
